Annie and Alex’s wedding ceremony at the AGO, violin and cello duo, July 20 Toronto ON

This wedding ceremony had class, style and beauty written all over it! We always enjoy performing at Baillie’s court in the Art Gallery of Ontario. “Baillie Court is located on the third floor of the newly constructed south tower and is accessed by three guest elevators. With Douglas fir finished, sound proof and retractable air walls, Baillie Court can be divided into three separate and distinct event spaces. A custom designed ceiling grid houses a range of lighting, sound and other in house features.”

Annie and Alex chose a program and selection of traditional classical music, that really seemed to fit with the modern venue and the style to their ceremony, from the first notes of Pachelbel Canon to the last strains of the Mendelssohn wedding March as guests were clapping and celebrating the newly married couple.

Ceremony songs:
Bridesmaids: Pachelbel Canon
Bride: Wagner Wedding March (Here Comes the Bride)
Signing: Vivaldi: Winter from the Four Seasons
Recessional: Mendelssohn: Wedding March
Wedding Venue: AGO
Ceremony Music: Duo d’Amore-string duos, trios and quartets

Danielle and Vince’s wedding ceremony, violin and cello duo, July 13th Rosewater Room, Toronto ON

Danielle and Vince chose our violin and cello duo to complement their ceremony, and add to all of the beautiful décor at their wedding ceremony at the Rosewater Room, at 19 Toronto St in Toronto. Our musicians have performed here many times in the past and everyone had a lovely time. For the prelude music the clients wanted something that was a bit different, modern music centered around the songs below, with Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream played just before the men took their spots , prior to the start of the ceremony. The ceremony music was quite traditional, which was a nice complement and mix along with the modern music head during the prelude, fifteen minutes before the start of the ceremony.

Prelude:
Teenage Dream
All You Need is Love - The Beatles
Beautiful Day - U2
Cinderella Waltz - Disney
Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles

I Think I Wanna Marry You - Bruno Mars
Whole New World - Disney
Ceremony:
Bridesmaids: Pachelbel Canon in D
Bridal: Wagner Bridal Chorus
Signing of register: Ave Maria
 Recessional: Mendelssohn Wedding March

Wedding musicians: Du d'Amore, string duos, trios and quartets, Toronto

I’m sure that Lesley and Ian had a great time planning their wedding, as we had a great time speaking with them as well as their wedding planner, Tara O’Grady from Bliss events, who was a pleasure to work with!

Leanne and Ian hired Duo d’Amore’s string duo to perform for their ceremony. As the guests were arriving and taking their seats, we the violinist and cellist performed a mixture of classical and popular selections.

Prelude from Te Deum – Charpentier Only Time – Enya Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen Trumpet Voluntary – Clarke Trumpet Tune – Purcell Dante’s Prayer – Loreena McKennitt

During the ceremony, we performed Bach Air on the G String as the bridesmaids walked up the aisle and Bach’s Wachet Auf for the signing. For the Processional and the Recessional, Leanne ad Ian hired Ian Laing, an accomplished piper which is always a nice touch.

As the guests were exiting the Church, we had a great opportunity to resume playing a number of upbeat and celebratory pieces of music taken from both our classical and modern repertoire.

Rica and Philip’s wedding ceremony June 29, 2013 at Le Select Bistro, Toronto

Though we love performing Churches, Cathedrals and sacred venues, both big and small, there is something unique and special about performing in a more intimate secular space, like Le Select Bistro. Musically, clients typically have a great deal more freedom with music choices, and Rica and Philip certainly made the best of that freedom, selecting an elegant, personal but appropriate selection of songs that also had a nod to more contemporary and popular selections.

Also nice was the inclusion of the first movement of Bach’s Cello Suite number one for the signing. This is not done often, but it worked extremely well!

Prelude: Handel and 'Beautiful Day by U2 plus 'Something' by the Beatles
Bridesmaids: Bach Air on the G string
Bride entrance: Pachelbel: Canon
Signing : First movement of Bach cello suite #1
Exit music: Journey - don't stop believing

Venue: Le Select Bistro, Erin, coordinator
Wedding music: Duo d’Amore-string duos, trios and quartets

Maryna and Shahab’s wedding ceremony June 29 Graydon Hall

We performed at a lovely string trio wedding ceremony and cocktail reception at Graydon Hall, a venue that we have performed in for countless weddings, receptions and recording for film and tv.

Our clients were Maryna and Shahab, and we had a great time discussing and helping to plan the music for the ceremony and the reception. They chose a great mix of classical selections as well as more Modern, upbeat pop tunes. As always the venue was great too!

A week or so after the ceremony, I followed up with Maryna and she mentioned that “We would like to express our thank u for musicians who performed at our wedding. They were great!!!!! We and our guests enjoyed the music a lot. They add special touch to our wedding.”

As well, she also reviewed us online on WeddingWire, giving us a perfect 5 star review, noting our excellent service, reliability and helpfulness.

Tish and Eric’s wedding June 15th, Caledon Estates, Caledon ON

Picture a wedding ceremony. What do you see? Most people would say a Church, a priest, the bride in white and the groom in black, live music from a string quartet or other classical music, beautiful flowers… This wedding had many of those elements but it was truly something special, as it included mead swords, and oathing stones! It was like an ancient Celtic ceremony, which was very exciting for us, as this was truly a ceremony designed by the bride and groom to reflect their own tastes and preferences. Musicially, we performed the following repertoire:

Bridesmaids Processional: Bach Air
Bridal Processional: Charpentier: Prelude from Te Deum
Signing: Time to Say Goodbye (Por Ti Volare)
Recessional: Handel: Hornpipe I from the Watermusik

Wedding Vendors:
Ensemble: Duo d’Amore-Violin and Cello duo

Kathryn and Anthony’s wedding June 15th, Our Lady of Peace Church, Etobicoke ON

Like many clients, I first spoke with Kathryn and Anthony 8 months ago, in chilly October, which seems so far away from the warn sunny weather on their wedding day. During our conversations, we spoke about our different ensembles (they chose the violin and cello duo), options regarding the ceremony music, and also confirmed many details throughout the booking process all to make sure their day was spectacular, which it was. As they were getting married in a Catholic Church, they chose a typically Catholic grouping of songs that is traditional, and timeless:

Music selections:
Bridesmaids Processional: Bach Air
Bridal Processional: Pachelbel Canon
Signing: Bach-Gounod Ave Maria
Communion: Bach: Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring
Recessional: Handel: La Rejouissance from he Royal Fireworks

In other blog posts I have written about certain music selections and why they work well in the context of a ceremony, or in this case a Catholic Mass, Bach Air is a particularly good example and fits a variety of situations. This is the reason we have suggested it for the Bridesmaids processional on our Guide to Wedding Ceremony Music Selections and Sample Programs. For Anthony and Kathryn’s wedding, Bach Air makes perfect sense as it is warm and welcoming; it is also very interesting music, and it is one of the longer selections, which is a very smart choice when you have a large bridal party, which this couple did (they had 5 bridesmaids). Conversely Bach Air also works well for smaller bridal parties, as it can be shortened without losing any of its character.

Constantina and Luca’s wedding, June 8, St Christophers Parish, Mississauga ON

June 8th was the day for string trios—our musicians performed as a trio for a number of events, and we enjoy performing in this format. The client actually hired us as a duo but decided that they would like to have a trio perform instead, and as always we were happy to add another player and made the change effortless for the client as we took care of all the details.

As this Church is Catholic, the clients chose a wonderful selection of songs during the wedding ceremony:

Bridesmaids Processional: Canon in D
Bride Processional: Wagner Bridal Chorus
Signing: Schubert: Ave Maria
Communion: Bach Air on the G-string
Recessional: Mouret: Rondeau

Ensemble: Duo d’Amore-string trio
