Stephanie and Mike’s wedding ceremony at the Grand Metropolitan of Mississauga, violin and cello string duo, September 14, 2013, Mississauga ON

The music for this wedding ceremony was arranged in a bit of a different way from other weddings, but it worked well, and provided uniqueness to the day. As the songs were a mix of classical and modern music, many couples choose classical music to be performed as the guests arrive during the prelude and modern music during the ceremony. In this case the clients chose appropriately soft and light modern music for the prelude, and a mix of both modern and classical music during the ceremony. Our string musicians really enjoyed performing the March of the Priests from the Magic Flute by Mozart, as it was a great contrast with the more flowing Pachelbel canon. Though many people already know the Pachelbel canon, it is amazing how different it can sound when paired with another song! The same thing can be said for the traditional recessional song being paired with Leonard Cohen’s beautiful Hallelujah during the signing.

Can't help falling in love - Elvis
The Prayer - Josh Groban

Melissa and Gregory’s wedding ceremony at the Oakview Terrace, violin and cello duo, September 7, 2013, Richmond Hill ON

This ceremony was lovely and intimate. The Chapel of the Oakview Terrace was a pleasure for us to perform in, as the sound of the violinist and cellists instruments reverberated off the beautiful wood to add a warm and special ouch to the wedding ceremony. The music selections were classic and timeless.

Alice and Geofrey Flores’ wedding ceremony at the Chapel of the Old Mill Toronto, violin and cello duo, September 6, Toronto ON

Our string duo loves performing at the Old Mill, one of our favorite, and certainly one of the most popular wedding venues in Toronto and the GTA, especially for our string musicians We performed at the Chapel, which is lovely and intimate, and were excited to perform a brand new recently completed song arrangement. As guests began to take their seats, we performed a selection of classical music to help create a nice mood, and them the guests know that the wedding would be starting shortly. For the processional, we performed a very beautiful violin and cello version of the Flower Duet from Lakme by Leo Delibes. This is to our knowledge the first violin and cello arrangement of this work and we were very excited to premiere it at this ceremony. The bride walked down to the Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera, which was also magical. The signing was the famous Wachet Auf, or Sleepers Awake, which was a nice classical piece for this part of the ceremony. Finally, Runaway by the Corrs was performed as the bride and groom walked their way back down the aisle. Prelude: Charpentier Prelude and other classical

Strains of Bach Air on the G String were heard as the final bridesmaid took her place, and we received a signal that the bride was next. We placed our bows on the strings and began the first bars of the very famous Pachelbel Canon, until the bride reached the front. Both of these classical pieces set the tone for the elegant ceremony. During the signing, we performed Enya’s Only Time, and then shifted to a much more modern and quick paced, exciting version of Bittersweet Symphony.

“Duo d'Amore was an absolute pleasure to work with and helped ensure a perfect day for my husband, myself and my guests. Many guests remarked how elegant and beautiful it was to have musical accompaniment for our ceremony. Matthew and his colleagues were very responsive, helpful, accommodating and professional. I literally recommended them to a bride-to-be on my wedding day. Pleasure to work with and have a broad range of selections and happy to help you with recommendations.” Natasha, bride

This ceremony took place in the lower ballroom of the Vaughan Estate in the grand and elegant Estates of Sunnybrook. An interesting feature of this ceremony was the signing music. Of course the bridal processional is very dramatic, and the recessional is full of energy, with clapping and excitement of the guests, but it was the music the clients chose for the signing that stood out for us. The signing is the point in the ceremony where there is not much going on, perhaps the least exciting point, even. The bride and groom are just signing documents. However, this is a spot where like the processional the music really has am important part to play. I have to congratulate Natasha and Michael on their choice of Unchained Melody. Not only is it a song that many people will recognize, albeit in a different arrangement for violin and cello duo, but it is one that will keep peoples interest in an elegant and understated way prior to the recessional.

“You have been so great to work with in planning our music and I appreciate it!” Megan, bride

Once again, we were honored to take part is such a beautiful wedding ceremony. This ceremony really reflected the bride and groom, as they worked hard to choose music that reflected the both of them: modern but with a real sense of occasion and style. We performed Secrets by one republic for the bridesmaids, followed by a great rendition of A Thousand Years by Christina Perry. This song is sure to become a wedding classic and we are so pleased when clients ask us to play this as it works so well. The couple also had a unity candle and a signing of the register where our violinist and cellist performed All I want is U2 by Bono/U2, and we finished off with Today by the Smashing Pumpkins! What a great mix of music!
