Stefania and Matteo’s wedding ceremony at St Mary’s Cathedral, July 28, 2012, violin and cello duo, Calgary AB

Stefania and Matteo’s wedding ceremony was traditional, refined and absolutely gorgeous! The music as well fit the style and mod of the ceremony just perfectly. The long aisle walk for the bridesmaids was set of and heightened by Bach’s Air, which is both graceful and flowing. The brides music was Pachelbel’s Canon in D, a perennial favorite at weddings, and performed by our violinist and cellist in an interesting and continually varied style, this too was also very flowing and really made the brides walk up the aisle something that the bride, groom and guests will always remember. For the signing of the documents, our musicians returned to the music of Bach performing the sedate and comforting Arioso. When the priest pronounced the bride and groom, the newly married couple walked down the aisle as husband and wife to Handel’s rousing and boisterous La Rejouissance.

Frank and Catherine’s wedding ceremony at Peninsula Ridge Winery, July 28, 2012, violin and cello duo, Beamsville ON

This ceremony was held under the beautiful apple trees at Peninsula Ridge Winery in beautiful Beamsville. In speaking with our clients they selected a fully classical playlist for the ceremony, but keeping the selections on the light and fresh side. Bach Air was gracefully performed as the bridesmaids made their way up to the front, followed by the rich and full sound of that wedding classic, Pachelbel’s Canon. After the vows and the rings, we performed Vivaldi’s Largo from the Four Seasons during the signing of the register. When the bride and groom were pronounced as husband and wife, we performed the up tempo Trumpet Tune by Purcell.

Sarah and Marek’s wedding ceremony, July 27, 2012, at Paletta Mansion, violin and cello duo Burlington ON

A July wedding at Paletta Mansion is a wonderful thing—the venue is beautiful and the temperature is always nice (owing to thelake effect and plenty of shade from the balcony at the back of the venue). The music choices for the ceremony were classical, but on the lighter side. As the guests gathered and were seated the two musicians performed a selection of light classical music, in keeping with the music that the couple had chosen for the ceremony. When the bridesmaids were lined up and ready to begin their walk down the aisle, the string players started to play Charpentier’s prelude from Te Deum. As the last bridesmaid took her place the song came to a natural cadence or closing point. After a short pause the bride began here walk down the lovely terracotta tiled steps looking straight out onto lake Ontario, and looking at the groom as well. Pachelbel’s Canon resounded and reverberated over the water as she reached her spot at the front. After the vows and exchange of rings, it was time for the signing of the register. The music for this portion was the light and flowing Jesu Joy by J.S. Bach. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the officiant announced the couple and they walked our triumphantly to Handel’s La Rejouissance.

Sabrina and Marc’s wedding ceremony and reception at Eaton Hall, July 14, 2012, violin and cello duo, King City ON

Eaton Hall is many things—known as Canada’s Downton Abbey, a location for film and tv shoots, the former home of Lady Eaton (of T. Eaton fame) and of course a wonderful Toronto wedding venue. Our string ensembles (violin and cello duo, string trio and string quartet) always enjoy performing for weddings at Eaton Hall, and Sabrina and Marc’s wedding was spectacular. The music that they chose for the ceremony was well suited to the castle like atmosphere of the surroundings, as the classical music they chose felt right at home amongst the architectural splendor of the house. The ceremony started off with a fanfare—the musicians performed Purcell’s Trumpet Tune for the entrance of the bridesmaids, and transitioned to the traditional bridal Chorus by Wagner. After the vows, the couple and attendants signed the register to the slightly upbeat but well chosen Wachet Auf (Sleepers Awake) by J.S. Bach. Rounding out the ceremony, the newlywed’s exited in style to Mendelsohn’s wedding March.

Sarah and Dan’s wedding ceremony at Whistle Bear Golf Club, July 7, 2012, violin & cello duo, Cambridge ON

Our violinist and cellist performed an outdoor wedding at Whistle Bear golf course, just outside of Cambridge. When I was speaking with Sarah regarding the music that she and Dan wanted for the ceremony, I found out that they enjoyed the music of Antonio Vivaldi, and the selected interesting music, by Bach (another baroque composer) as well as Giuseppe Verdi. The program as a whole was fantastic, and we were so happy to be able to perform all of the music they requested.

Bridesmaids Processional: La Vergine Degli Angeli from Verdi’s La Forza del destino

Bride processional: Largo from Vivaldi Lute concerto RV 93

Signing: Bach, first movement from the Cello Suite #1

Shufan and Bruce’s wedding ceremony at Riverbend Inn and Vineyards, July 6, 2012, violin and cello duo, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

While choosing wedding music selections, is fun and exciting, it can also be difficult, unless you are like this couple that knew exactly the mood that they wanted to create (lively, upbeat) and we worked together to make sure that the music had great flow. They also requested an arrangement of the opening Aria or the theme from J.S. Bach’s Goldberg variations. The ceremony opened with the bright and spirited Rejouissance by Handel (most often performed for the recessional) and it was a nice twist to have it performed by the violinist and cellist first thing. The Bach for the bride followed this, and they both exited to Coldplay’s Viva la Vida, for an even more upbeat recessional.

Riverbend Inn and Vineyards, was lovely as always and our musicians look forward to playing there again soon!
