“The Musicians were wonderful!”, Jenny and Wayne, bride and groom

We have performed at St John’s Lutheran Church for many concerts and weddings over the past 15 years, and it was nice to be back to perform this wedding ceremony. In speaking with the bride, the couple was looking for mainly popular music with a few classical pieces added for variety. This is the type of wedding program that we perform outdoors or in a secular context, and it was quite nice that the church is relaxed about what kind of music they allow, as it affords the couple an opportunity to experiment and have exactly the music they would like at the wedding ceremony, be it pop, contemporary or traditional, and everything in between.

Prelude: Today, Concerning Hobbits, Yellow, Can't Help Falling in Love, Dream

Bridal Party Processional - Pachelbel Canon in D

Bride Processional - A Thousand Years

Wedding Violinist Cellist Kitchener: Michelle and JD

“The duet was amazing and surpassed all expectations. A very nice performance by two very talented musicians. A highlight for myself and I'm sure Michelle as well. It gave the ceremony a feeling of warmth and richness. Many thanks for all your help!”

This was the string duo’s first time performing at the Lang Tannery, and it was truly a wonderful event! As our wedding musicians perform at a many venues in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, this venue is sure to become a popular option in the future. The juxtaposition of the old with the new was particularly striking, as the building was at one time thought to be the largest tannery in the British Empire, ca 1850, and is now an incredibly modern venue with exceptional facilities such as the amazing projection screens that surround the room.

The music that the clients chose also fit this old and new theme, but everything was always elegant and refined to reflect both the occasion and the couple!

I had a great time chatting with Sarah and Matthew, as I always like it when couples know what the music they would like, and when we can deliver and craft an interesting grouping of songs for the ceremony that reflect both the church (in this case) and the bride and groom’s personal style. The Church wanted to make sure that the songs they had chosen would work well during the ceremony, and aside from the classical selections, which always work well, I wrote the following short reviews of the more modern pieces. We had a great time performing them, and received many compliments.

Bridesmaids Processional: Bach Air on the G string
Bride Processional: Disarm you with a Smile

The cello and violin are each highlighted in this soft and gentle arrangement. Both players alternate between bowing and plucking the strings to give a unique and interesting color to the sound. This piece is more intimate than the Bach Air, which provides a lovely contrast for the processional.

Signing: Hallelujah and Bach Jesu Joy
Recessional: Viva la Vida

Spirited and rhythmic, Viva la Vida brings a contemporary celebratory twist to the wedding ceremony, as the bride and groom exit.
