Gisela and Sean’s wedding ceremony at St Mary’s Catholic Church, October 26, 2013, violin and cello duo, Toronto ON

The string duo performed for a beautiful wedding ceremony at St Mary’s Catholic Church on October 26th. The music selections were wonderfully traditional, highlighting baroque composers such as Bach and Pachelbel, classical composers like Mendelssohn and Romantic composers (especially during the signing) as Charles Gounod.

Tracy and Jack’s wedding ceremony at the Chapel of the Cambridge Mill, violin and cello duo, October 26, 2013, Cambridge ON

Our string ensemble has performed at the Cambridge Mill for many years, but it was our first time performing in the brand new chapel, which is beautiful. The music the clients selected for the ceremony was an all classical program, combining traditional wedding music, with a slight twist at the end that everyone enjoyed. Before the ceremony stated our violinist and cellist performed a mixture of light classical music for the guest seating. With the start of the ceremony, the first piece performed was Bach’s Air on the G string as the bridal party walked up the aisle. This is an excellent choice for the bridesmaids, as the music is well known, as well as light and flowing. The bridal processional was the even more famous Pachelbel Canon in D, and we were happy to perform it as the bride walked up the aisle. Then came the exchange of rings, vows of the ceremony and the kiss. To make the marriage official, the couple signed the register and we performed another piece by Bach called Jesu Joy of Man’s desiring. Like the bridesmaids music, this piece also has a very nice flow to it. As well it is quite long, but always interesting which makes it a great choice for the signing. The recessional was Vivaldi’s Spring from the Four Seasons, which is always a delight, but especially in October, and even more so for a wedding ceremony as it symbolizes the couple’s rebirth of love for one another through marriage.

Erin and Jamie’s wedding and reception at Airship 37 and the Fermenting cellar in the Distillery District, October 19, 2013, Toronto ON

Sundays performance and I might add Saturdays were just beautiful and added a great atmosphere of calm and rejoicing to both occasions. Mother of the bride

This wedding ceremony was the start of a series of vents for the bride and groom spanning two days, and two string ensembles. The wedding ceremony took place on the Saturday at Airship 37 in the distillery district, and included a very modern grouping of songs that fit in perfectly with the type of ceremony the bride and groom had in mind. For the prelude and seating, the string quartet performed a number of pieces, ending with the Theme from Skyrim. To start the bridesmaids processional we performed All I Want is You by U2, and segued into Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. The next portion of the ceremony where the musicians perform is for the signing, and we performed the upbeat Bittersweet Symphony, as this particular signing was fairly short. The recessional was really fun, as it was a homage to the Breakfast Club, with the song Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds, and even included the fist pump!

Following the ceremony the string quartet also performed for the cocktail hour in the Fermenting Cellar. The next day the clients hired the violin and cello duo to perform at a brunch at George Restaurant. Once again everything was very well received.

The couple was beautiful and easy to work with, and the ceremony had such a great flow and was full of fun. The views from the windows room are stunning, and we were glad to see Anne from White Orchid Weddings there—she always does a fantastic job! The ceremony music was equally spectacular with a broad range of music ranging from classical music during the prelude and modern music throughout the ceremony. October 12 was a very busy day for us, but also exciting as we have a wonderful time performing for wedding ceremonies in Ottawa. This wedding ceremony was a very classy and classical in its structure—from the beautiful church to the flowers, and of course the music as well. The ceremony featured music by baroque composers Bach, Pachelbel and Mouret as well as an adaptation of a song composed by Bach with a romantic melody added (the Ave Maria). We wish you many years of wedded blss!

Tips on incorporating cultural/religious music into your wedding ceremony.

String quartet wedding music Ottawa

Our string quartet performed for Alain and Stephanie’s classic wedding ceremony and reception in two of Ottawa’s exceptional wedding venues: The Notre Dame Cathedral and Chateau Laurier. For the ceremony, the clients selected a classic and traditional ceremony music, some of which we shared the performance with the church organist. After performing a number of classical pieces for the prelude, the quartet started performing Bach Air on the G string for the entrance of the bridal party, switching to Pachelbel’s Canon in D as the bride walked up the aisle. These two parts of the ceremony are always the most dramatic, as the bridesmaids and bride make their entrance and the music has to be perfect—combined with the guests sense of expectation and history in the making not to mention the beautiful church, we are always honored to play a part, musically speaking. We also performed another piece by Bach, actually Bach-Gonoud, the famous Ave Maria during communion. For the signing of the register the strings played Bach’s Arioso, and the Church organist performed the recessional. Following the ceremony, the string quartet relocated to the nearby Château Laurier where they performed selection of light classical music.

Lindsay and Michael’s wedding ceremony at St Joseph’s Church, October 12, 2013, violin and cello duo, Hamilton ON

This was our first time performing at St Joseph’s Church in Hamilton, and it was a fantastic experience. The church is located in the trendy Locke St., with its interesting shops and great restaurants. Something that made this wedding additionally special for us and of course the guests and bride and groom is that we were able to work with the organist, Stillman Matheson to make the music for the ceremony really stand out. For the ceremony we performed out beautiful list of Romantic Selection that the clients chose from the Guide to Wedding music and Sample programs that we have on our website. Many couples have found it a helpful resource to use when choosing wedding ceremony music, and I’m glad it helped our clients. The program for the wedding ceremony was:

Bridesmaids Processional Bach air on the G string

Bride: Pachelbel Canon

Signing: Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria

Recessional: Mendelsohn Wedding March

Wedding Violinist Cellist String Ensemble Calgary: Kasandra and Robert

Kasandra and Rob were married at the Carriage House Inn in Calgary, and our string duo performed a great grouping of songs at their ceremony. Before the ceremony started we performed a number of songs including two that the clients had requested: Secrets by One Republic and Stereo Heats by Gym Class Hero. As the groom entered, the grooms mother and father, the brides mother and brother, another brother and his wife and maid of honor and the flower girl our string musicians performed Bittersweet symphony, and transitioned to I Think I Wanna Marry You by Bruno Mars. For the signing of the marriage license we played Can’t Help falling in Love, and we also had a backup song in case it went a bit longer than expected. The song that the bride and groom chose was I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz. For the recessional we performed the fantastic and upbeat Viva la Vida.

Terri and Derek’s wedding ceremony at The Nordic Centre, October 5, 2013, Canmore AB

Our last wedding ceremony was just a month ago in September at the Nordic Centre and it was good to be back. Our violinist and cellist performed an interesting program of music for this wedding that included a mix of more popular and modern songs with more traditional music s well. We started to play as guests were arriving and being seated. The first song that the string ensemble performed was for the groomsmen as the walked in. Although this part of the ceremony typically happens in silence Bittersweet symphony was a natural choice of the opening of the wedding ceremony. The bridesmaids walked to The Rose by Bette Midler, and the bride came in to the famous Pachelbel canon in D. The signing continued with classical music (this is always a great idea) and we performed Bach’s Air on the G string, followed by Viva la Vida by Coldplay for the recessional.
