String Ensemble Vancouver: Andrea and Russell

Our violin and cello duo, trio and string quartet play many different kinds of events, though most often, we are hired to perform for a wedding ceremony and cocktail hour, and sometimes the dinner as well. It’s not very often when we are hired only for the cocktail hour, but it is actually refreshing to play after the ceremony has ended, as we did at the Cecil Green Park House in Vancouver. This is a great option for brides and grooms that perhaps have the music sorted out for the ceremony, but want something special and unique, as well as upbeat and fun for the cocktail hour. As always we enjoyed every minute and received lost of compliments from the guests!

Andrew and Agata’s wedding ceremony at Pine Knot Golf and Country Club on August 18, 2012, violin and cello duo, Dorchester ON

This was a beautiful wedding ceremony, with an interesting story to go along with it!

We arrived early to setup, and actually had a bit of a hard time trying to find our exactly where to setup. The bride and groom were being married by the arbor down the terrace, and there was not a great spot, or shade for us to position ourselves where we could both see what was happening during the ceremony, or for the guests to hear us very well. We must have looked at 3 or 4 spots, and I was not too happy with any of them. That’s when we looked up, and though about the possibility of setting up on the terrace, above the ceremony. We tried it and had a perfect view of the ceremony. We also tested out the acoustic, and made sure to have the f holes of the violin and cello pointing towards the guests so that the sound would sound full and rich. The amazing part is because many of the guests entered from around the side of th building, no one knew that we were there until we started to play. Many guests were so surprised and delighted to see and hear us play. Truly a memorable wedding!

For the ceremony music, we worked alongside a piper who performed at various points in the ceremony.

Vanessa and Nicholas’s wedding at Elm Ridge Country Club, August 4, 2012, violin and cello duo, L’Ille Bizard, QC

Matthew, The duo that preformed at our wedding ceremony (at Elm Ridge Country Club) were absolutely amazing! They were set up and ready for the guests, started on time, played the music we wanted and did a phenomenal job! Thank you so much for helping make our ceremony something very memorable. Vanessa, bride

Wedding ceremonies have changed quite a bit in the past ten years, but it’s nice to see a very traditional wedding (especially where the music is concerned) as many other things can be modernized to great effect including the music, but as they say some things never go out of style, and classical wedding music is one oft those things. To that end, Vanessa and Nicolas, had a beautiful wedding ceremony with wonderful classical music performed by the violinist and cellist, two excellent musicians from Duo d’Amore. As the bride walked down the aisle, we performed Pachelbel Canon—our version is quite a bit more full sounding than most, and we always love playing it, and that joy translated into both our performance and the guests enjoyment. For the signing of the register We performed another piece from the baroque period (around 1600-1750) by one of the most famous composers, Bach, his Jesu Joy with is smooth and rich, with a great pulse to it. For the recessional, we performed something that was really upbeat, lively and fun: Handel’s Hornpipe from the Water music. Theses songs worked very well individually and even better as a grouping and we were honored to perform them for such an appreciative bride and groom and guests.
