“Everything was more than perfect! Thank you so much!” Marie-Eve, bride

This was a picture perfect outdoor wedding, as you can see from the photo and if you look at the photos from the very talented Amy Eaton. The weather at The Cove in Westport was perfect, the ambiance, flowers, music—just everything. Marie-Eve and Marc were extremely easy to work with, and they selected warm, spring like music that especially complemented the ceremony. To start the string duo performed Christina Perri’s A Thousand years. In this arrangement the violin has the melody while the cello accompanies, and it is a very effective song for the processional at an outdoor wedding. The signing was Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, which brings the excitement down considerable, but the romance up a few notches (which of course is important in a wedding ceremony). To conclude the ceremony, the very popular and also romantic by with a bit more of a beat, Somewhere over the Rainbow.

How to choose wedding music: the recessional

Well, we’ve reached the last major point in the ceremony for amazing music: as the bride and groom walk down the aisle as husband and wife. What could be more exciting? The music for this portion is often the most upbeat, loud and fast of the whole ceremony, and many couples find that along with the processional, it is easy to choose recessional music. Plus the recessional songs great with one of our string ensembles! If you are getting married in a cathedral or with the Catholic Church, there are lots of alternative classical pieces to choose from, not to mention great more common songs like Handel: Rejouissance form the Royal Fireworks (which we LOVE to perform) and Mouret Rondeau, for example. If you want to be more on trend, we have a great selection of pop music recessional music such as Viva la Vida, which is becoming almost traditional, to the Beach Boys Crazy Little Thing Called Love and even November Rain by Metallica, and many, many more options.

Sundays performance and I might add Saturdays were just beautiful and added a great atmosphere of calm and rejoicing to both occasions. Mother of the bride

This wedding ceremony was the start of a series of vents for the bride and groom spanning two days, and two string ensembles. The wedding ceremony took place on the Saturday at Airship 37 in the distillery district, and included a very modern grouping of songs that fit in perfectly with the type of ceremony the bride and groom had in mind. For the prelude and seating, the string quartet performed a number of pieces, ending with the Theme from Skyrim. To start the bridesmaids processional we performed All I Want is You by U2, and segued into Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. The next portion of the ceremony where the musicians perform is for the signing, and we performed the upbeat Bittersweet Symphony, as this particular signing was fairly short. The recessional was really fun, as it was a homage to the Breakfast Club, with the song Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds, and even included the fist pump!

Following the ceremony the string quartet also performed for the cocktail hour in the Fermenting Cellar. The next day the clients hired the violin and cello duo to perform at a brunch at George Restaurant. Once again everything was very well received.

Our violin and cello duo had a great time performing for this wedding, as everything went smoothly and sounded beautiful. We started by performing the classic Pachelbel’s Canon for the wedding party and bride, continuing on to Bach-Gounod’s Ave Maria during the signing (a beautiful piece and ideal for the signing of the register) and finishing off with a well chosen and upbeat Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke.

“We want to say thank you so much for making our day perfect! Everyone loved the violinist and cello player. They were exactly what we were looking for. We couldn't have asked for two more polite and wonderful people to play for us. It was beautiful and they played every song that we requested. We did get a picture with them and I will send them to you when we return back from our honeymoon in Jamaica. Again it was an absolute pleasure to work with you. We will highly recommend you to everyone I know.” Marcia and Chad

Our string quartet has the opportunity to perform for the wedding ceremony and reception at the Old Mill this past Saturday and everyone had a great time at this beautiful event. We worked along side some familiar faces such as the staff at the Mill and Rev McNally, who I have spoken about in another blog, as well as some new faces—the wedding planner Jackie from the Prepared Bride and Love You Madly Photography.

When we arrived at the venue, the only person there was the staff from the Mill and Jackie. We had a very nice conversation with her and mentioned that everything was arranged and ready to go. Like us, she was extremely organized. Soon after the photographers and cinematographers arrived and setup. Prior to the ceremony they look some beautiful shots of our string quartet, which we hope to post here soon.

Not long after that the guests started to cross the covered bridge over the stream that flows through the Mill property, and it was time for us to begin to play. We performed a selection of classical music until we received the cue from the staff to begin the music for when the Reverend and the groom walked up the aisle. This was Bach’s Air on the G string. We continued to perform this song as the parents and groomsmen walked own the aisle. Next, we switched the Pachelbel’s Canon in D for the six bridesmaids and flower girl, switching again to the Wagner Bridal Chorus for Rebecca’s bridal processional.

After the exchange of rings, vows and the kiss, Steve and Rebecca signed the marriage license. The signing portion of the ceremony is very nice for the guests and for us, as it allows people the change to meditate and take is the fact the two people are getting married and have promised to love each other for the rest of there lives. Music is a wonderful addition to the ceremony especially during the signing, and we performed another popular piece from JS Bach-Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring. This song had a beautiful flow to it which is enhanced by the gentle murmuring of the stream nearby.

After the license was signed, the Reverend introduced the couple and they exited to Mendelssohn’s’ Wedding March,. We continued to play 3 or 4 additional songs after the Wedding March until all of the guests had exited. The cocktail reception took place in the Millview Room of the Ancaster Mill, and from our point of view it seemed like all of the guests were really enjoying themselves. For this portion, we performed a selection of Modern music, from the Beatles,U2, jazz standards like Blue Moon and Once in While and other contemporary songs.

After performing in over 1000 wedding ceremonies, it’s so great to be surprised and delighted with performing music. Not just new music, but music arranged in a particular way, perhaps used for a different part of the wedding ceremony that is not so common. This wedding was full of surprises. With music by Enya, The Verve, Guns N’ Roses and the theme to Anne of Green Gables this wedding gave us an exciting surprise and a playlist we won’t soon forget!

"Hey Matthew! Thank-you for the message! Day was perfect and the music was amazing! Thank you so much for everything and you sounded amazing! Thanks Again."
Kristi and Brad Hiseler

Kristi and Brad were married in a beautiful wedding ceremony, held at St Patricks Church in Caledonia which is a short distance from Hamilton ON.We performed a mixture of classic wedding music, and popular music which fit right in and sounded really great. The bridesmaids walked down to Pachelbel Canon, and Kristi walked down to Marry me by Train. For the signing the classical Ave Maria was heard and this provided a perfect backdrop and the somewhat quiet and serene music was perfect for this pat of the wedding ceremony.  Accidentally in Love was played to loud applause for the guests.

Our violin and cello duo, trio and string quartet play many different kinds of events, though most often, we are hired to perform for a wedding ceremony and cocktail hour, and sometimes the dinner as well. It’s not very often when we are hired only for the cocktail hour, but it is actually refreshing to play after the ceremony has ended, as we did at the Cecil Green Park House in Vancouver. This is a great option for brides and grooms that perhaps have the music sorted out for the ceremony, but want something special and unique, as well as upbeat and fun for the cocktail hour. As always we enjoyed every minute and received lost of compliments from the guests!
