Wedding Violinist Cellist String Ensemble Calgary: Kasandra and Robert

Kasandra and Rob were married at the Carriage House Inn in Calgary, and our string duo performed a great grouping of songs at their ceremony. Before the ceremony started we performed a number of songs including two that the clients had requested: Secrets by One Republic and Stereo Heats by Gym Class Hero. As the groom entered, the grooms mother and father, the brides mother and brother, another brother and his wife and maid of honor and the flower girl our string musicians performed Bittersweet symphony, and transitioned to I Think I Wanna Marry You by Bruno Mars. For the signing of the marriage license we played Can’t Help falling in Love, and we also had a backup song in case it went a bit longer than expected. The song that the bride and groom chose was I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz. For the recessional we performed the fantastic and upbeat Viva la Vida.

Terri and Derek’s wedding ceremony at The Nordic Centre, October 5, 2013, Canmore AB

Our last wedding ceremony was just a month ago in September at the Nordic Centre and it was good to be back. Our violinist and cellist performed an interesting program of music for this wedding that included a mix of more popular and modern songs with more traditional music s well. We started to play as guests were arriving and being seated. The first song that the string ensemble performed was for the groomsmen as the walked in. Although this part of the ceremony typically happens in silence Bittersweet symphony was a natural choice of the opening of the wedding ceremony. The bridesmaids walked to The Rose by Bette Midler, and the bride came in to the famous Pachelbel canon in D. The signing continued with classical music (this is always a great idea) and we performed Bach’s Air on the G string, followed by Viva la Vida by Coldplay for the recessional.

This wedding was perfect, in a very unique way—it rained throughout the ceremony! This might not be some people’s definition of a perfect wedding, but in this case it was. The bride’s family is Scottish, and as the photographer Shannon Yau so elegantly put it on her blog: “the fog mixed with the rain, the tartan, and the bag pipes – it couldn’t have been more perfect.” Our string musicians added an additional layer of elegance and mystique that the venue (The Ranche) and weather had supplied for the wedding.

“Thanks for being there doing an awesome job! Our guests and us were enjoying the music”

We work very hard to provide our clients with a wide range of interesting music to choose from, including classical, pop, fiddle tunes rock and everything in between, and it’s always nice when clients send us their selections for each part of the ceremony, such as the processional, signing, communion, offering, sand ceremony etc. But, its also nice when the clients leave the selections up to us, and that is exactly what happened with this ceremony at the Prince House, and it was excellent and a surprise for the couple.

Marcia and Chad’s wedding ceremony, violin and cello duo, August 17, Lake Chapparal Community Centre, Calgary AB

“We want to say thank you so much for making our day perfect! Everyone loved the violinist and cello player. They were exactly what we were looking for. We couldn't have asked for two more polite and wonderful people to play for us. It was beautiful and they played every song that we requested. We did get a picture with them and I will send them to you when we return back from our honeymoon in Jamaica. Again it was an absolute pleasure to work with you. We will highly recommend you to everyone I know.” Marcia and Chad

Sameer and Nastaran’s cocktail reception at the Fairmont Palliser, string trio July 27 2013, Calgary AB

Having performed at a number of Fairmont hotels across Canada, it was lovely to perform for a cocktail reception on the balcony of the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. We received many comments about the great performance by our string ensemble. Throughout the process we had a lovely time dealing with the main planner Lesley Plumley at Magical Moments as well as the staff at the Hotel.

Megan and Garett’s wedding ceremony at Glencoe Golf and Country Club, violin and cello duo, July 27, 2013, Calgary AB

This was our first time performing at Glencoe Gold and Country Club, and we would love to perform there again, as everything was exceptional. Regarding music song selections, our clients chose very classical and beautiful music to accompany the ceremony. It was also nice that they added a sand ceremony to the wedding, and this is a great opportunity for a very simple and quite short piece of music—in this case our musicians performed Amazing Grace which added a nice touch to the wedding ceremony at the beautiful outdoor location at Glencoe Golf Course in Calgary.

Calgary Wedding String Ensemble

This was Duo d’Amore’s first time performing a wedding ceremony at the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. As I have mentioned in the past, venues other than Churches (though we love playing in beautiful venues with amazing acoustics) can be exceptional spaces to hold weddings and events. Why? Clients get much more of a say in how the ceremony goes, and for us we enjoy it because clients can choose different music from what they might choose if the wedding ceremony takes place in a Church. Amber and Vaughan did just that—they chose an eclectic mix of music that went perfectly with the wedding ceremony.

Strings for Weddings Calgary: Tessa and Ben

We had a great time performing at this wedding, and the location was fantastic! Combining this with the couple’s unique and non-traditional pop arrangements of some of the ceremony songs, this was a ceremony to remember!

When Tessa and Ben sent the selections to me, I was struck by how nicely they had combined popular film music with well known classical music, and how well the arrangements sounded for the violinist and cellist. And if you’re having your ceremony at an Observatory, the Imperial March music from Star Wars is a must!
