Wedding violinist cellist ensembles St Catharines

This was a fantastic ceremony, and even the weather cooperated! It was Duo d’Amore’s first time performing at Rockway Vineyards, and everything went perfectly! The staff at the winery was friendly, and as it was quite warm the wedding was even outside which is quite a rare thing in October. Us being string players, with the colder weather and even more serious lower humidity can to terrible things (irreparable in some cases) to our expensive instruments, but this wedding worked out great!

For music the couple chose classical selections, including Bach Air and Pachelbel Canon for the processional. During the signing, a friend sang (which added a wonderful touch to the wedding) and our violin and cello duet performed once again for the recessional! What a wonderful wedding!

Kitchener-Waterloo wedding ceremony violinist

Fall wedding ceremonies are fantastic, and Maria and James wedding was no exception. The ceremony was held indoors at the Abraham Erb Grist Mill, right near Waterloo Park. We have performed here for over 10 years, and even though the venue is right in the heart of Uptown Waterloo, it always feels like you are in the country. The beautiful rich colours also make it a wonderful time for outdoor photos, as seen from the beautiful images by Hillier Photography. 

Martha and James did a great job of choosing songs. It always amazes me when clients send me their music selections and I would not change a thing, and this was the case with the well-chosen selections. As the venue was small, the clients chose a solo violin player for the ceremony, which was a nice touch.

The processional was the much-loved classic, Pachelbel Canon, and this was used for the wedding party and the bride. The signing music was Bach Jesu Joy, and we often recommend this for the signing portion of the ceremony, as it is just the right length, and it helps that this has more of an upbeat feel to it, which looks forward to the recessional, which is typically faster in tempo. As the couple exited as husband and wife, Mouret Rondeau was performed, as this gave both a sense of excitement as well as a really nice classic feel to conclude the wedding ceremony. Congratulations!

Hockley Valley Resort is about an hour northeast of Toronto, and it is a popular venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions, as they are so beautiful. Duo d’Amore performs here quite regularly throughout the year for events, and we were honoured to be back to perform for Laura and Garrett’s wedding. We had lots of opportunity to perform as the couple booked us for the ceremony and reception.

As is normal, we arrived in plenty of time and performed a number of songs for the prelude just prior to the wedding ceremony. When the bridesmaids were assembled, the violinist and cellist started with Secrets by One Republic and when they were all lined p at the front, we transitioned to the very beautiful A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. This song works so well for a bridal processional! After the vows came the signing which is another opportunity for the string duo to perform, and we performed a touching rendition of I Won’t Give Up, by Jason Mraz. To conclude the ceremony the strings performed Bittersweet Symphony, and like Laura mentioned in the quote above, it was a “moment that I will never forget.”

Following the ceremony there was a cocktail reception, and the strings switched from playing slower pop songs, to songs that were more lively and upbeat (as Laura and Garrett requested) before making a quiet exit as the party got into full swing.

Toronto wedding string trio: Casa Loma

The mother of the groom contacted Duo d’Amore looking for music for her sons wedding ceremony at Casa Loma. Deciding between a violin and cello duo,  string trio and a string quartet, they couple chose the string trio. The trio is midway between the duo and quartet, and it’s a slightly more full sounding ensemble than the string duo, which works well in a space like the beautiful conservatory.

For the prelude prior to the ceremony, we typically a selection of classical pieces, and this worked out well as the clients requested that we perform selections by Vivaldi, Bach and other composers whose music is light and airy. This type of music really helps to set the mood as guests take their seats, and again in such a beautiful location, the music really adds to the whole experience.

During the ceremony, we performed Pachelbel Canon in D as the bride walked up the aisle, and more modern music for the signing of the register. When there is slightly more upbeat pop music as opposed to classical, we always advise our clients to choose two songs rather than one, as signings can last as long as 8 minutes. Having two songs that work well together just provides that extra bit of insurance that there will be enough music to last for the whole signing, and keeps the guests entertained with something special that they might not expect. For the recessional we performed the very popular Marry you by Bruno Mars for a beautiful conclusion to a beautiful wedding ceremony.

If there is one thing that set this wedding apart from other ceremonies that we have performed tat Le Belvedere, or anywhere else, it’s the variety and eclectic combination of songs that the bride and groom chose for the ceremony. Everything from Guns n Roses to Elvis to Vivaldi, and there were even more surprises. Our violinist and cellist even had the opportunity to accompany the bride’s Aunt, as she beautifully sung a song during the signing of the register. I am sure that this was exciting for all of the guests, and we love to go that extra mile to really make the ceremony special for everyone. Combined with the beautiful location at Le Belvedere this ceremony really reflected the couple and their family on such a joyous and happy day! Congratulations

Toronto (and Duo d’Amore) cellists Amahl Arulanandam and Bryan Holt are presenting their own concert featuring works from composers such as Boccherini, Popper, Gliere and Coblentz, along with a few special surprises.  If that’s not enough to entice you, they will be playing at a wonderful new gastropub called ​Burdock​, at 1184 Bloor Street West, just west of Dufferin Station. Summer 2015 Wedding Season; Feeling Thankful; Awesome Accolades and New Reviews

As June wraps up, wedding season is just about in full swing, and will continue until September, when things start to slow down. One of the great things (knock on wood) about 2015 so far is that the weather, while quite variable during the week, has been uniformly great across the country on weekends, something that we are thankful for, and we hope it continues all year long!

Another thing that we are thankful for of late is the awesome feedback and exposure that our string ensemble has received over the past few months.  Just a few weeks ago, a wedding that our Toronto wedding ensemble of violin and cello held at the Four Seasons was featured on the Wedluxe blog:

Brittany was great to work with. She has lots of great ideas for choosing the wedding songs, and we worked together to make sure that there was variety in the styles of music, as well as a great flow, which is very important. I enjoyed the fact that the ceremony started out with classical selections, and moved on to more modern selections as the ceremony progressed. The classical selections were quite upbeat: Bach's Jesu Joy has great movement as it is based on a dance tune, and it is also fun to walk down the aisle and Pachelbel Canon (in our version) also moves along at a stately yet brisk pace. The two of them work very well together for this reason. For the signing, A Thousand Years is a great addition to the program, as it slows things down a bit, yet injects a more modern vibe into the ceremony, which continues with  the great Beautiful Day, which not only ended the ceremony, but reinforced what a beautiful day it was!
