After performing in over 1000 wedding ceremonies, it’s so great to be surprised and delighted with performing music. Not just new music, but music arranged in a particular way, perhaps used for a different part of the wedding ceremony that is not so common. This wedding was full of surprises. With music by Enya, The Verve, Guns N’ Roses and the theme to Anne of Green Gables this wedding gave us an exciting surprise and a playlist we won’t soon forget!

Bridesmaids: Enya Only Time

Bride: Guns N’ Roses November Rain

Signing: Anne's Theme from Anne of Green Gables

I had a great time chatting with Sarah and Matthew, as I always like it when couples know what the music they would like, and when we can deliver and craft an interesting grouping of songs for the ceremony that reflect both the church (in this case) and the bride and groom’s personal style. The Church wanted to make sure that the songs they had chosen would work well during the ceremony, and aside from the classical selections, which always work well, I wrote the following short reviews of the more modern pieces. We had a great time performing them, and received many compliments.

Bridesmaids Processional: Bach Air on the G string
Bride Processional: Disarm you with a Smile

The cello and violin are each highlighted in this soft and gentle arrangement. Both players alternate between bowing and plucking the strings to give a unique and interesting color to the sound. This piece is more intimate than the Bach Air, which provides a lovely contrast for the processional.

Signing: Hallelujah and Bach Jesu Joy
Recessional: Viva la Vida

Spirited and rhythmic, Viva la Vida brings a contemporary celebratory twist to the wedding ceremony, as the bride and groom exit.

Another amazing wedding at Hauser Hall! Our violin and cello duo performed for this morning wedding on September 29, 2012, and had a great time working with Eric and Tori, creating a wonderful grouping of wedding songs for their ceremony. The selections combined the elegance and sophistication of classical baroque music with more modern, more upbeat selections such as Arms of Love by Kutless and Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve.

Prelude:

La Rejouissance by Handel

First movement of the Cello Suite no 1 by Bach

Sleepers Awake by Bach

Wedding ceremony:

Processional: Canon in D- Pachelbel

Signing: Arms of Love- Kutless

Recessional: Bittersweet Symphony- The Verve

The gardens at Fantasy farm are beautiful! It is such a nice experience to be surrounded by lush growth, beautiful flowers on a wonderfully sunny and bright afternoon. This feeling of peace and calmness carried through into Lora and Dave’s wedding, which was a true fantasy. Throughout the planning process, and especially the music song selection process, the couple was really looking forward to hearing the music that they had spent time listening to and ultimately choosing to have played as the ceremony was taking place. As Lora’s bridesmaids entered Te Deum by Charpentier was performed. After the last bridesmaid got to the front and stood beside each other, the bride entered to Pachelbel Canon in D. From this point the couple exchanged rings and vows, and they signed the register, to perhaps one of the most beautiful and appropriate selections for the signing: Bach’s Ave Maria. It always strikes me everything we play this music, how well it is written, and how many different moods it can express. Traditional, the ceremony ended as the couple triumphantly exited amidst applause to Mendelssohn’s Wedding March.

Update: A short while after the ceremony, Duo d’Amore received a wonderful notefrom the bride and groom:
“Duo d'Amore: Very professional and the cello and violinist sounded lovely! Everyone at my wedding enjoyed listening to them play, myself included. :) Thanks again! Lora G. - Toronto Wedding on June 16th, 2012.”

Weddingbells magazine called Christine and Stephen’s wedding ceremony at the Glenerin Inn in Mississauga “vintage and chic” and it certainly was both of those things. As far as the music selection, Christine wanted to keep the music pretty classic, and chose wedding selections for our list of sample programs, which is tailor made for a classic wedding.

Bridesmaids: Bach Air

Signing: Bach-Gounod: Ave Maria

Recessional: Mendelsohn Wedding March

It was a great day and we were as always, happy to be a part of it!
