NOTL wedding string quartet

NOTL wedding string quartet. Oxana + Larry’s wedding ceremony and reception at the Oban Inn. May 16, 2015, violin and cello duo, Niagara on the Lake. May 16th was such a beautiful and sunny day. Perfect for an outdoor spring wedding! The ceremony and reception took place at the beautiful Oban Inn in Niagara on the lake. The ceremony was held outdoors just in front of a lovely gazebo. A beautiful spot surrounded by attractive manicured grounds. We arrived early (as always) and found  parking on a nearby street. We didn’t mind the walk as we passed many stately and historic houses—some from the late 18th century! Next, we immediately said hello to Meagan from Weddings Tied with Lace  (it’s always great to work with her) and setup our music stands and the helpful staff brought us two chairs.

Wedding guests arrival music performance

Soon enough, the guests began to arrive, and we started to play some light prelude music to help set the mood.

Classical and pop ceremony music Niagara

When the officiant and groomsmen were at the front of the “aisle” signalling that the bridesmaids were in position, we performed a  beautiful rendition of Pachelbel’s Canon. When all the bridesmaids have commenced their walk, we expertly switched to Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love. For the signing of the register the violinist and cellist changed back to classical music, with Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, and ended the ceremony triumphantly with a fun version of Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles.

Post ceremony music

Just following the bride and Grooms exit, we continued to play for a few minutes, escorting the guests out of their seats with more music. At this point the guests made their way indoors for a cocktail reception, and we continued to perform for this portion of the day, all the way through dinner. We received many compliments, and were glad to participate in such  a beautiful wedding day!

How many songs do you perform at a wedding ceremony?

We always feel that the more music, the better! Depending on what you would like and the type of wedding ceremony you are having, here is what we recommend for a ceremony?

Prelude (as guests arrive) 3-5 songs

Processional: 1 or 2 songs. (1 song for both the wedding party and bride or 1 song for wedding party, another song for bride)

The wedding part and bridal party music can really be anything, but a contrast between the wedding party and bride is recommended.

Signing: 1 classical song, or 2 pop songs

The signing is the portion of the ceremony where the marriage documents are signed by the bride, groom, officiant and witnesses. Generally, slower more contemplative music is chosen for this portion.

Recessional: 1 song

This is the part of the ceremony where the bride and groom exit the venue. Upbeat, fun and exciting music really helps to create a festive mood.

Can you perform after the ceremony as well?

Yes, our NOTL wedding string quartet and ensembles can perform during the cocktail hour, the first dance, dinner etc.

Tips for choosing and assembling a wedding music program

Consider slower less upbeat pop music guests arrive:

The prelude before the ceremony is a great time to include less upbeat pop music, as guests will be chatting. We like to recommend that this is the time to include a wide variety of different styles. Think classic rock, top40, the Beatles etc–a little something for everyone. Listen now: https://duodamore.com/samples/

Gradually add more contemporary/pop top 40

Add some contemporary selections. Contemporary music can add a modern touch to your playlist and appeal to a wider range of guests. Consider incorporating popular songs like “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri or “All of Me” by John Legend. As the ceremony progresses, we incorporate additional current pop music.

Incorporate special songs. Consider adding special songs that have meaning to you and your partner. It could be your first dance song, song from your first date or song that holds special memories for the both of you.

Vary the moods. Mix up the moods of the songs on your playlist to keep things interesting. Consider adding upbeat songs for the reception, and slower, more contemplative songs for the ceremony. Here are some ideas: https://www.brides.com/upbeat-love-songs-4799999

Signing of the register is a time for reflection

The signing of the marriage documents is a time to stop and reflect. This is the time to really slow things down. There may be time for one or even two pop songs, and don’t forget classical. The slower, quieter song choices really make whatever is chosen for the upbeat recessional “pop”.

Tell your story

Make a playlist that tells your love story. Create a playlist that tells the story of your relationship. Add songs that hold special memories for the both of you.
