“Thanks for being there doing an awesome job! Our guests and us were enjoying the music”

We work very hard to provide our clients with a wide range of interesting music to choose from, including classical, pop, fiddle tunes rock and everything in between, and it’s always nice when clients send us their selections for each part of the ceremony, such as the processional, signing, communion, offering, sand ceremony etc. But, its also nice when the clients leave the selections up to us, and that is exactly what happened with this ceremony at the Prince House, and it was excellent and a surprise for the couple.

A wonderfully harmonious chord was heard as the bride took the final steps up to the front of the aisle to greet her soon to be husband, as Duo d’Amore’s musicians finished playing Pachelbel’s Canon. The violinist and cellist picked up their instruments again to serenade the guests and during the signing of the register with Vivaldi’s Winter from the Four Seasons. Shortly after the officiant was proud t announce the bride and groom and introduce them for the first time as husband and wife. Amid clapping and cheering from guests we performed an equally exciting rendition of La Rejouissance from the Royal Fireworks by Handel.

Strains of Bach Air on the G String were heard as the final bridesmaid took her place, and we received a signal that the bride was next. We placed our bows on the strings and began the first bars of the very famous Pachelbel Canon, until the bride reached the front. Both of these classical pieces set the tone for the elegant ceremony. During the signing, we performed Enya’s Only Time, and then shifted to a much more modern and quick paced, exciting version of Bittersweet Symphony.

“You have been so great to work with in planning our music and I appreciate it!” Megan, bride

Once again, we were honored to take part is such a beautiful wedding ceremony. This ceremony really reflected the bride and groom, as they worked hard to choose music that reflected the both of them: modern but with a real sense of occasion and style. We performed Secrets by one republic for the bridesmaids, followed by a great rendition of A Thousand Years by Christina Perry. This song is sure to become a wedding classic and we are so pleased when clients ask us to play this as it works so well. The couple also had a unity candle and a signing of the register where our violinist and cellist performed All I want is U2 by Bono/U2, and we finished off with Today by the Smashing Pumpkins! What a great mix of music!

Wedding String Trio Calgary: Sameer and Nastaran

Having performed at a number of Fairmont hotels across Canada, it was lovely to perform for a cocktail reception on the balcony of the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. We received many comments about the great performance by our string ensemble. Throughout the process we had a lovely time dealing with the main planner Lesley Plumley at Magical Moments as well as the staff at the Hotel.

This was Duo d’Amore’s first time performing a wedding ceremony at the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary. As I have mentioned in the past, venues other than Churches (though we love playing in beautiful venues with amazing acoustics) can be exceptional spaces to hold weddings and events. Why? Clients get much more of a say in how the ceremony goes, and for us we enjoy it because clients can choose different music from what they might choose if the wedding ceremony takes place in a Church. Amber and Vaughan did just that—they chose an eclectic mix of music that went perfectly with the wedding ceremony.

William and Kate’s Royal Baby, christening and music ideas

With the news of the Royal Baby being delivered today, it got me thinking about christening music. Aside from performing at wedding ceremonies, receptions, memorials, funerals and private and special events Duo d’Amore also performs in a number of baptisms and Christenings each year.

The Royal Family always does a great job of selecting music, and hire fantastic people to work on their musical team. (Around the time of the royal wedding, I met with one of the musicians who performed and helped to plan the event while on tour with a choir from London).

The christening of the baby will likely take place in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace, which begs the question: what music will Kate Middleton and Prince William choose for the christening? If I could recommend something, I would choose music that is classical, and that is somewhat soothing such as:

Bach Air on the G string
Bach: Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring
Bach: Sheep May Safely Graze
For some reason, the music of Bach is a wonderful fit. It is nice with a solo violin, or a violin and cello duo, or even organ with either violin or cello. The music room of Buckingham Palace does not have an organ, so I would recommend the violin and cello duo if the royal family decides to have music for the christening.

50th Anniversary party July 4, 2013 at the Waterlot New Hamburg

Duo d’Amore was honored and excited to perform for a 50th Anniversary celebration held at a beautiful restaurant in downtown New Hamburg, which is close to Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford. The venue comprises a refurbished private residence, now a restaurant and inn, originally built in 1847. The house is adjacent to a lovely park, and is situated on the banks of the Nith River.

Our violin and cello duo was hired to perform for 2 hours, and to play a variety of classical music selecting pieces from our repertoire by composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Pachelbel etc. The musicians received many wonderful coments of their performance, and everyone had an enjoyable time.

Fundraiser for the BMT (Blood and Marrow Transplant) and the Ross Cathcart Legacy Endowment Fund of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, June 16, 2013.

Rather than recount the details of the string duos performance at this event, which we were proud to be a part of, here are some comments from Jo-Anne the organizer, which speak for themselves:

“Dear Matthew & Duo d'Amore.

Thank you so very much for coming up and generously donating your time and talent for my Garden Party for BMT (Blood and Marrow Transplant) and the Ross Cathcart Legacy Endowment Fund of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation on June 16, 2013. The weather was less than ideal and you easily adapted to the conditions. The violin and cello duo "added a touch of class" and "was a wonderful complement" to the Garden Party. The musicians were very talented and professional. The selections you chose were perfect for the event. The live music truly added to make the afternoon a wonderful memory that will stay with me forever. I would happily, whole-heartedly recommend Duo d'Amore for any occasion.“
