50th Anniversary party July 4, 2013 at the Waterlot New Hamburg

Duo d’Amore was honored and excited to perform for a 50th Anniversary celebration held at a beautiful restaurant in downtown New Hamburg, which is close to Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford. The venue comprises a refurbished private residence, now a restaurant and inn, originally built in 1847. The house is adjacent to a lovely park, and is situated on the banks of the Nith River.

Our violin and cello duo was hired to perform for 2 hours, and to play a variety of classical music selecting pieces from our repertoire by composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Pachelbel etc. The musicians received many wonderful coments of their performance, and everyone had an enjoyable time.

Another thank you card from great clients:

Dear Matthew,

Sorry for the late response, but Chuck and I just wanted to thank you for doing such a wonderful job with your team at our wedding in Niagara Falls on November 24, 2012. The music was so beautiful I still tear up I hear it. I really appreciate all the time and effort you took in picking out the perfect songs including “Accidentally in Love” last minute. Everyone loved the music and had such a wonderful time.

Thank you again and we wish you all the best!

Vicki and Chuck

Wedding String Quartet Toronto: Rica and Philip at Le Select Bistro

Though we love performing Churches, Cathedrals and sacred venues, both big and small, there is something unique and special about performing in a more intimate secular space, like Le Select Bistro. Musically, clients typically have a great deal more freedom with music choices, and Rica and Philip certainly made the best of that freedom, selecting an elegant, personal but appropriate selection of songs that also had a nod to more contemporary and popular selections.

Also nice was the inclusion of the first movement of Bach’s Cello Suite number one for the signing. This is not done often, but it worked extremely well!

Prelude: Handel and 'Beautiful Day by U2 plus 'Something' by the Beatles
Bridesmaids: Bach Air on the G string
Bride entrance: Pachelbel: Canon
Signing : First movement of Bach cello suite #1
Exit music: Journey - don't stop believing

Maryna and Shahab’s wedding ceremony June 29 Graydon Hall

We performed at a lovely string trio wedding ceremony and cocktail reception at Graydon Hall, a venue that we have performed in for countless weddings, receptions and recording for film and tv.

Our clients were Maryna and Shahab, and we had a great time discussing and helping to plan the music for the ceremony and the reception. They chose a great mix of classical selections as well as more Modern, upbeat pop tunes. As always the venue was great too!

A week or so after the ceremony, I followed up with Maryna and she mentioned that “We would like to express our thank u for musicians who performed at our wedding. They were great!!!!! We and our guests enjoyed the music a lot. They add special touch to our wedding.”

As well, she also reviewed us online on WeddingWire, giving us a perfect 5 star review, noting our excellent service, reliability and helpfulness.

Here are her selections for the ceremony, and a selection of some of the music we performed during her reception:

Ceremony Music:
Processional: Con te Partiro
Signing: Imagine and Bach Air on the G string
Recessional: Bittersweet Symphony

Natalie and Martin’s wedding ceremony at Liuna Station, solo violinist, June 29, 2013, Hamilton ON

It was so nice dealing with Natalie and Martin regarding their ceremony music, as they asked for only one song in particular: Pachelbel’s Canon as the bride walked down the aisle. For the rest of the music, including the as guests were arriving, during the ceremony and during the exit, this was all left up to us. It is nice when clients trust us to choose music. This is not done often, but it is one of the best ways of having a surprise at your wedding and is recommended. I should also mention that each time we perform at Liuna Station, we are amazed that a building like this exists and is used for weddings and events. It is truly stunning, and resembles an ornate (but smaller) Union Station in Toronto.

Kristen and Anthony’s wedding ceremony at the Museum of Nature, violin and cello duo, June 29, 2013, Ottawa ON

Thank you for the excellent performance at our wedding on June 29th at the Museum of Nature. It turned out exactly as we hoped thanks to you.  Your rendition of La Vie en Rose was beautiful and I particularly appreciate that you were able to accompany my dear friend Rosanne as she sang Ave Maria on fairly short notice. “ Kristen & Anthony

This review says it all. We were glad to perform at this wedding ceremony, and always happy to do our best for any last minute changes or additions. In his case we were able to accompany a friend of the bride and groom who sang during the ceremony, and we received many compliments.

Cheryl and Sebastian’s Wedding Ceremony, June 22, Auberge St. Gabriel, Montreal QC

We were excited to perform at this wedding, as it is always interesting to perform different songs in a non-traditional way, and make everything flow seamlesly. For thsi event, the clients selected two songs: Songbird and All you Need is Love by the Beatles. We were honoured to perform for them, and work alongside a wedding planner that we have known for a few years now, Azar.

Fundraiser for the BMT (Blood and Marrow Transplant) and the Ross Cathcart Legacy Endowment Fund of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, June 16, 2013.

Rather than recount the details of the string duos performance at this event, which we were proud to be a part of, here are some comments from Jo-Anne the organizer, which speak for themselves:

“Dear Matthew & Duo d'Amore.

Thank you so very much for coming up and generously donating your time and talent for my Garden Party for BMT (Blood and Marrow Transplant) and the Ross Cathcart Legacy Endowment Fund of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation on June 16, 2013. The weather was less than ideal and you easily adapted to the conditions. The violin and cello duo "added a touch of class" and "was a wonderful complement" to the Garden Party. The musicians were very talented and professional. The selections you chose were perfect for the event. The live music truly added to make the afternoon a wonderful memory that will stay with me forever. I would happily, whole-heartedly recommend Duo d'Amore for any occasion.“

Catholic Wedding String Ensembles Ottawa

We often perform at St Anthony’s Church on Booth St in Ottawa, and Melissa and Matt’s ceremony was another beautiful event. Many guests arrived early for the ceremony, so we started to play a selection of additional music prior to the start of the wedding ceremony. When the ceremony started, the flow and timing of everything was incredible. As wee knew the number of bridesmaids that were walking down the aisle it was easy for us to end the first piece of music which was Charpentier’s Prelude from Te Deum at exactly the right point, right when the final bridesmaid took her place. Similarly for the rest of the ceremony (most importantly the bridal processional) everything else went exceptionally well, as our playing filled the warn acoustic of the Church. The signing was the popular Bach Gounod Ave Maria, which was followed by The Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn.
