Duo d’Amore performance for HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 3 DVD release

Our violin and cello duo had an incredible time performing for the Toronto Launch party for the latest DVD release of HBO's Game of Thrones. The event was held at the beautiful Berkley Church, and decorated in the Medieval style--suits of armour and dragons and a huge video screen playing clips from the show. For entertainment there was sword-fighting and fire juggling as well as Duo d'Amore performing the theme from Game of Thrones and the Rains of Castemere. Check out this blog for pictures.  #GameofThronesTO

Wedding String Ensemble Stoney Creek: Danielle and Ryan wedding ceremony at the Grand Olympia, February 16, 2014, string trio, Stoney Creek, ON

Our string trio of two violins and cello performed at this wedding held in the Stoney Creek Room of the Grand Olympia in Stoney Creek. The setup of the room was particularly elegant, with the venue obviously thinking a great deal about how to make use of the features of the room. As the space was long and narrow, there was a perfect opportunity to create an aisle for the bridesmaids and the bride to walk down. For the processional we performed the wedding classic Pachelbel canon. For the signing we moved into a more modern song, Today by the Smashing Pumpkins. Originally the bride and groom had also selected a classical piece to be performed if the signing went overtime, but the smashing pumpkins song was the perfect length and ended at just the right moment. The recessional, when the bride and groom walked down the aisle at the end of the ceremony was Don't Stop Believing by Journey, and as it was upbeat, lively and fun, was a great finale to the wedding ceremony.

Follow up on our performance for the Ross Cathcart Endowment fund

I received a great email the other day from Jo-Anne who organized a fundraiser in support of the Ross Cathcart Endowmnet fund and the Ottawa Hospital Foundation. The event was recently profiled in the current issue of Life Support, which mentioned that the Garden Party (that Duo d’Amore performed at) raised $7670 to help fund education, patient care, training, and research in the Blood and Marrow Transplant program at the Ottawa Hospital. We were glad to be a part of this vent, and Jo-Anne mentioned, “It's a cold winter.  What a perfect time to think back on the Garden Party.”

Wedding String Quartet Hamilton

We love performing at Liuna station. This heritage building has a huge foyer and it’s a perfect venue for a wedding ceremony and reception, but also for the music, as the sounds fills the room. Eddie and Lija chose an excellent grouping of music for their ceremony. A highlight for us was the sand ceremony, as when we have seen these take place in the past, there are usually two people (typically the bride and groom or mothers for example) hat tip two vessels of sand into a single vessel. This symbolizes the strength of the couples bond and relationship, and it would be as difficult to separate these grains of sand, as it would be for the couple to separate. It’s really beautiful and powerful symbolism. What made this part of their ceremony different is that have a group of ten participating in it, which made it extra special.

Prelude: musicians choice

Bridal party procession  - Bach-Gounod Ava Maria

Bridal procession – Pachelbel Canon in D

Sand ceremony - Bach Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring

Signing – Vivaldi Winter from the Four Seasons

Recessional – Mouret Rondeau

Wedding String Ensemble Niagara: Balls Falls

Today’s wedding ceremony was wonderful. We arrived at the historic church at Balls Falls conservation area quite early, and the only other person inside the church was the officiant. We had a really nice chat and setup for our performance. The music for the ceremony was fantastic—Sarah and Shaun had spoken with me about creating an arrangement of a portion of the second movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto number 5 known as the Emperor Concerto. This music was to be played as the 3 bridesmaids, the maid of honor and the flower girls walked up to the front of the church, as well as for the bride’s processional. During the signing, the sister of the groom sang Schubert's Ave Maria, and the ceremony ended with an upbeat rendition of Handel’s La Rejouissance from the Royal Fireworks. It was so nice to perform in this small chapel. Though when we arrived it was pretty chilly, once the heat was on and all of the guests arrived, the room was very warm, and everyone had a great time.
