“Thank you for making such a special contribution to our day!” Julia, bride
June 7th, was truly a beautiful day—the weather was wonderful and the perfect day for a wedding ceremony. The wedding was held at the escarpment site (complete with a lovely pond) at Cave Spring Vineyards, just a few kilometers from Inn on the Twenty in Jordan. This site is particularly wonderful, as unlike the other vineyard site, this one is elevated slightly, so guests have a wonderful view of the vines and lake Ontario that is spectacular. Another interesting thing about this site, and why we love it so much, is that it backs onto the escarpment, which acts almost like an amphitheater for the instruments, reflecting the beautiful sounds of the string instruments with surprising clarity.
Julia and I spoke about the music selections, and she had a great list already planned, which worked out very well. The only suggestion I offered is to have a second song chosen in case the signing went overtime. She chose Counting Crows: Accidentally in Love which was a nice combination with the recessional song of Here Comes the Sun. It was a great day and all the guests had a wonderful time. We were happy to be a part of it!

Our string ensemble performs regularly at the Ancaster Mill, but this wedding was one of the most unique events that we have performed at the Mill. Ryan and Nilusha had their ceremony in the 1812 room, which, when you enter the Mill, is downstairs. This was our first time playing in the room, and it is both beautiful with the dark wood and fireplace, as well as the original artifacts from the mill presented in a glass display. Rooms that have some wood in them are great for carrying and enhancing the sound of string instruments and this really helped create a beautiful ambiance and purity of the violin and cello tone.
Ryan and Nilusha were interested in having a number of pop songs from our Modern repertoire throughout their ceremony, and we worked on creating the playlist below. Their ceremony was also interesting, as they combined traditional western traditions with beautiful Indian traditions for a truly memorable and wonderful ceremony.
Bridesmaids Processional: Cohen: Hallelujah
Bride Processional: Elvis: Can’t Help Falling in Love
Signing: Beatles: All you Need Is Love and Perri: A Thousand Years
Recessional: Coldplay: Viva la Vida
Ancaster Wedding ceremony music: Duo d’Amore-violin and cello duos, string trios and string quartets
If there is a trend in the wedding industry, I would say that more and more couples are going outside of the box, and customizing and choosing elements of the wedding, whether flowers, attire, venues, readings and specially music that combines classic elegance with elements of contemporary and popular culture. While there are many more decisions for the clients to make, the result is often spectacular, especially of they have a wedding planner or in our case Duo d’Amore who can help guide them in choosing music so that it has the right fit for the client and for a wedding ceremony. In this respect Danielle and Dany did an excellent job!
Looking at the two modern songs by Enya and the Verve, they have a classical feel to them, but also are different enough to add a bit of additional excitement to the wedding ceremony.
