Rhiannon and Ben’s wedding ceremony, violin and cello duo, August 17, Chateau Laurier Ottawa ON

Rhiannon and Ben chose pop music for their ceremony and we were happy to accommodate, as always. The ceremony took place in the Adam room of the Chateau Laurier. The bridesmaids walked down the aisle to “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perry with the bride following with “Kissing You”, otherwise known as the Theme from Romeo and Juliet. As the signing can sometimes take five or six minutes, two songs were chosen for this part of the ceremony: “I Won’t Give Up” and “Yellow” by Coldplay. Bruno Mars’ “I Think I Wanna Marry You”, was heard as the recessional.

We have performed here in all seasons, but with the weather we’ve been having recently—not too hot, little wind, it is  a perfect opportunity for our string musicians to perform at an outdoor wedding in a beautiful lakeside setting in Caledon, just north of Toronto. This wedding was a great combination of natural beauty and classical music—always a great pairing. Here are the song selections that the bride and groom chose:

Bridal Party: Clarke: Trumpet Voluntary
Bride: Pachelbel Canon
Signing: Bach: Jesu Joy
Recessional: Mouret Rondeau
Reception: Classical and Pop music

Aside from the musical performance and the venue, Nancy at WEDECOR took care of the all the printing, invitations, programs, table numbers seating chart they did all the flower arrangements: bouquet, corsage, boutonniere centerpiece, large arrangements. Nicole and Mark’s wedding ceremony, string trio, August 17, Ravine Vineyard, Niagara

“The trio were excellent. Set up in plenty of time and played all of the songs we requested beautifully... Couldn't have asked for more!”

The next day, Duo d’Amore was back at Ravine Vineyard, this time with a string trio of two violins and cello to perform for Mark and Nicole’s wedding. This wedding could not have been more different, though it was equally fantastic, and very dramatic. Ravine has two sites where couples can get married: the site we performed at the day before is situated just around the corner from the parking lot (this is actually much better than it sounds) and affords a beautiful uninterrupted view of greenery: vines, trees, fresh cut grass, and more an more vines. The site that we performed at for this wedding is in a way more intimate, and it is located at the bottom of the vineyard. Guests arrived here either by walking along a designated row in the vineyard, or were shuttled directly to their seats via a golf cart driven by the staff at Ravine. Then came the helicopter! The groom arrived at the upper ceremony site via a helicopter, which was certainly a dramatic and bold way to arrive at a wedding ceremony! By this time we had setup down the hill, and were expecting the first set of guests to arrive. We performed a number of musical selections and carried onto the ceremony, as soon as the wedding guests were in place. For the processional, we performed two songs the Beatles’ “Here There And Everywhere” for the 8 attendants, and the Etta James classic, At Last. During the signing, we performed Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World”. As we looked over to the signing table, the bride and groom were smiling at us and gave a wide grinned nod of approval. To conclude the ceremony, the trio played “All I Want Is You” by U2. We continued to play a few pieces of music as the guests exited back to the main building. As we were exiting, we congratulated the bride and groom, who said we did a fantastic job!

“We want to say thank you so much for making our day perfect! Everyone loved the violinist and cello player. They were exactly what we were looking for. We couldn't have asked for two more polite and wonderful people to play for us. It was beautiful and they played every song that we requested. We did get a picture with them and I will send them to you when we return back from our honeymoon in Jamaica. Again it was an absolute pleasure to work with you. Laura and Matt’s wedding ceremony and cocktail reception, violin and cello, August 16th Ravine Vineyard, Niagara ON

Ravine vineyard is located in the heart of Niagara, and unlike many of Niagara wineries, rather than a flat landscape, Ravine Vineyards landscape is full of rolling hills and beautiful vistas, which makes for a magical location for a wedding. In speaking with Laura and Matt weeks and months prior to the wedding, they decided on having classical music played by the violin and cello prior to the wedding, and a mix of classical for the ceremony itself (see below). The ceremony was officiated by John Shore from Kettle Creek Weddings, who did a marvelous job, and was happy to work with us again. After the ceremony ended, the guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’ouevres at the stunning outdoor bar, which we performed many of the clients favorite pop songs. As usual, everything was spectacular, thanks to Ravine and especially Lis from Bliss!

Pre-ceremony: Assortment of romantic traditional songs (Massenet Meditation from Thais and additional classical)

Wedding violin and cello duo Toronto ON

“Duo d'Amore was an absolute pleasure to work with and helped ensure a perfect day for my husband, myself and my guests. Many guests remarked how elegant and beautiful it was to have musical accompaniment for our ceremony. Matthew and his colleagues were very responsive, helpful, accommodating and professional. I literally recommended them to a bride-to-be on my wedding day. Pleasure to work with and have a broad range of selections and happy to help you with recommendations.” Natasha, bride

This ceremony took place in the lower ballroom of the Vaughan Estate in the grand and elegant Estates of Sunnybrook. An interesting feature of this ceremony was the signing music. Of course the bridal processional is very dramatic, and the recessional is full of energy, with clapping and excitement of the guests, but it was the music the clients chose for the signing that stood out for us. The signing is the point in the ceremony where there is not much going on, perhaps the least exciting point, even. The bride and groom are just signing documents. However, this is a spot where like the processional the music really has am important part to play. I have to congratulate Natasha and Michael on their choice of Unchained Melody. Not only is it a song that many people will recognize, albeit in a different arrangement for violin and cello duo, but it is one that will keep peoples interest in an elegant and understated way prior to the recessional.

Sandy and Pawel’s wedding ceremony at Blessed Sacrament Church, violin & cello duo, August 3, 2013, Ottawa ON

The bride and groom were married in the spacious and striking Blessed Sacrament Church in Ottawa. As we have performed at this venue in the past, the ceremony flowed effortlessly. One of the nice things is we were able to include quite a bit of music. As performing music is our passion, and we want to fill the service with music, we thought that the choices and the order of songs worked our perfectly.

Before mass:

1. Vivaldi Winter from the Four Seasons
2. Mouret Rondeau
3. Trumpet Voluntary - Purcell

4. Trumpet Voluntary - Clarke

During mass:

1. Bridesmaids: Bach Air on the G string

2. Bride: Wagner Bridal Chorus

3. Signing:  Meditation from Thais

Katherine and Robert’s wedding ceremony at St Paul’s Church, string trio, August 3, 2013, Neustadt/Normanby ON

“We thought the musicians were great, the music was great and our guests loved it as well.   We really appreciated their professionalism, punctuality and performance. Thanks so much for your help!” Robert, groom

Indoor weddings in the summer are just great—we are always happy to perform indoors and many of the guests often greatly prefer indoor wedding to outdoor, especially in August, and especially if you have elderly or young children at the event. In the case of a heat wave or cold and damp weather, a Church wedding or other indoor location will always go off without a hitch! This was a very nice wedding, which combined the traditional church wedding with a number of modern and popular music choices, which received a number of positive comments from the guests.
