Etelka Nylasi

Violin - Edmonton ON
Originally from Hamilton, ON, Etelka has an Honours Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, where she studied violin, viola and composition. She also has a Master of Music degrees from both the Birmingham Conservatoire, UK as well as the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

Etelka has many years experience performing and arranging music for weddings and other functions in both the UK and in Canada, playing with various ensembles such as the Nero String Quartet and Variations-on-a-Theme String Quartet. She was also an active orchestral player for the Central England Ensemble during her 6 years living in Birmingham, England.

Now based in Edmonton, AB, Etelka is active as a strings teacher in her own private studio as well as for schools such as Resonate Music School and the Alberta Music Academy. She also collaborates, performs and records with various musicians in Edmonton, most recently with Pakistani Sufi musician, Karim Gillani. Further artistic endeavours include being actively involved with the University of Alberta-based ensemble MENAME and its offshoot professional group, the Tarabish Collective.
