Shima Takeda

Violin - Victoria BC
Shima Takeda is a freelance violinist who currently lives and works in Victoria, British Columbia. Born and raised in the city of Surrey in Greater Vancouver, Shima began violin lessons with Lucille Lewis at the age of four, and piano lessons at the age of ten. While living on the lower mainland, Shima attained her ARCT certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto – the most advanced certificate offered by that institution – and she performed with the Surrey Symphony Society and the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. She later came to the island in order to attend the University of Victoria where she studied violin with Christi Meyers (assistant concertmaster of the Victoria Symphony) and Ann Elliott-Goldschmid (the first violinist of the Lafayette String Quartet).

Since completing her degree, Shima has been active in the professional music community in and around Victoria. Her activities to date include performing with the city’s premiere classical ensemble – the Victoria Symphony – as well as performing as a member of the DieMahler Quartet, Sonrisa Quartet, and Doug Farr Jazz Ensemble. Other ensembles that she has performed in include the Sidney Classical Orchestra, the Saltspring Island Chamber Orchestra (as concertmaster), Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, Palm Court Light Orchestra, and also performed in the orchestra with Via Choralis directed by Nicholas Fairbank. She also toured across Canada with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 2010 for their 50th Anniversary Celebration. In addition to her work as a classical violinist, Shima proudly pursues a broad range of musical interests. These interests include playing the piano, guitar, viola, electric bass, and ukulele, as well as performing music in the jazz, folk, and popular styles. She has performed in BC and across North America with various accomplished classical and non-classical musicians. Shima is available for hire for weddings, receptions, banquets, and concerts, and is available as a violin teacher/coach.
